This is called reseller hosting and works as the same way the name suggests. This is how it really works. One can buy a web hosting package from one of the root level web hosts (who host physical servers and maintain them) with a particular hard disk space and bandwidth. Then this person is legally eligible to host third party web sites within the limits hard disk and bandwidth allocated.
Usually the reseller buys the packages wholesale and then sells web hosting to his customers with a profit. In this case, the reseller does not do much or in some cases does not do any thing other than providing the services offered by the root level web host. Usually, these reseller packages are best for personal websites or small businesses where these packages come with very limited hard disk space and network bandwidth. If the reseller has rented a dedicated server, then web hosting packages for larger companies may be available.
Reseller web hosting is also an inexpensive way of starting a web hosting business. Usually the reseller web hosting packages allow the resellers to create their own service plans (packages etc.) and pricing. Also, reseller can promote their own brand name for services they offer to the end customer without exposing the main web hosting company. Reseller hosting is one of easiest to maintain. Actually, there is no maintain to be done at the infrastructure end as it is being taken care of by the root web hosting company who offered the package to the reseller. If there are issues with hardware, software or connectivity, these are firstly reported to the reseller by the end customers and then they are forwarded to the root web hosting company by the reseller. Reseller just performs the interfacing to the end customers. For maintaining and managing web hosting accounts, resellers can use a web interface called “Control Panel” and its quite easy.
