This is the new medium of expression - Weblogs!

When you hear Weblogs, I know it’s bit alien to you. But how about Blogs? That’s one of the words that you hear almost every day right? Blogs or in it’s original word - Weblogs are now in the process of being popular increasingly.

Some time ago, with the introduction of personal web spaces, users started to create their own website (mostly static) to publish about themselves, interests etc. This was a little bit hard exercise as these users had to design their own web pages using various tools or else to get some professional help if they can afford. With the usage of weblogs (blogs), users didn’t have to go through the hassle of designing web pages just to express themselves instead, they could use already designed templates and layouts.

When it comes to the history of blogs, don’t assume it started recently. It only got more popular recently. The roots of blogging go back to year 1983 to the usage of Usenet moderated newsgroups. And remember this was pre HTMP era!

mod.ber was one of the very first newsgroup published which has modern “blog” characteristics embedded. Authors used to publish interesting article that they find elsewhere on the net. Unfortunately after about 8 months, mod.ber was shutdown.

Have you ever thought about the oldest existing blog on the net? That’s again a newsgroup founded by Brad Templeton in 1984 called rec.humor.funny and you can access it even now! Yes, there are considerable gaps between Usenet news groups and modern blogs. So, how the modern blogs originated? There was web software called “Online Diary” and users would keep a running account of their day-to-day life.

Whatever the origin of blogs, we all are bloggers by now. That’s why you read this article in a blog site. There are many software introduced to make blogging easy. So you can setup the software easily in a web space you rented or in your own web server.

As far as I know, Word Press is the blogging software that is becoming increasingly popular nowadays.
