Games as a unique invention of human kind now have come to its most sophisticated era of electronic gaming. TV and computer games have been out there for some time and few generations have enjoyed those very well. Mobile phone games are the latest addition to the gaming world by revolutionizing the gaming industry. Unlike other gaming methods, mobile gaming allows the user to play games anywhere, anytime, and on any device.

These games are played mostly using the technologies available on the device itself. Usually mobile games are downloaded to the phone via the mobile operator’s network, but in some cases they will be loaded via infrared, Bluetooth, a memory card or a wired connection (USB). There are so many platforms created for mobile games and Java is one of the most popular platforms. Therefore, Java runtime is an essential piece of software for every phone.

Let us talk about a few common limitations of mobile games. Since mobile games are small in size due to the limited storage capacity and the limited processing power, they are designed in a way such that they have a great game play and attractive graphics. One of the biggest challenges of game developers is to describing the game in such a detailed manner giving the users enough information to make a decision on buying. Obviously there is a great deal of convincing to be done if the user is a game enthusiastic. Game developers use two mechanisms to overcome this issue. First they have started to use a certification or a grading mechanism for grading their games by independent bodies so the end user will get an idea of the game value. This is practiced by PC and console game developers using various websites. Secondly, they try to use common game play patterns so the user will instantly recognize how to play the game.

One of the other major issues faced by mobile game developers was the lack of multiplayer ability. However, with the introduction of technologies such as Bluetooth, this difficulty, which was virtually impossible at one time, has now been overcome.
